Red Foxes are our only member of the wild dog family. Their thick tail aids balance as well as being used to communicate with other foxes.

In Winter foxes will normally meet up to mate (this is when you'll hear the strange fox calls outside). As mammals they give birth to live young, usually in early Spring. A vixen (female fox) usually gives birth to a litter ranging from 2 to 12 cubs. They are normally dark grey or black when there are first born, however cubs are not normally seen by humans when they are this colour as a lot of their red fur comes through before its time to leave the den. You can tell which foxes have been born this year by their black legs as some of the black fur stays until they are up to a year old.

How to make your garden red fox friendly:
-Leave a section of your garden to grow wild, they will then have an opportunity to create their dens there as it remains undisturbed.
